Quick answer

What is the Restaurant, Hotel & Bar POS System?

Zinen Technologies' Restaurant, Hotel and Bar POS System is a multi-outlet point of sale for restaurants, bars and hotel outlets in Kenya and East Africa. It is built on Odoo's own Point of Sale, with floor plans, tables, kitchen printing and offline mode, and extends it with staff security, station printing, delivery channels and local payment methods.

Staff sign in with a card or badge, PIN or fingerprint-reader bridge, every sensitive action has a named approver, and every login, void, discount and table move is logged. Orders route to the right kitchen, bar or pizza printer, takeaway can be converted to dine-in on one receipt, delivery orders from Uber Eats, Glovo and Bolt Food land in the POS, and customers can pay with M-Pesa, bank gateways, cards or cash, with KRA eTIMS handled through the shared eTIMS module.

What's included

Everything included in the Restaurant, Hotel & Bar POS System

Staff card, PIN and fingerprint login

Staff sign in by RFID, magstripe or barcode badge, PIN, pick-name plus PIN or a fingerprint-reader bridge using any local device that speaks the documented HTTP protocol.

Role hierarchy and supervisor approvals

Define waiter, bartender, cashier, supervisor, manager and administrator roles, with a permission matrix saying who may do each sensitive action and who may authorise it.

On-screen authorisation prompts

Junior staff get a prompt for a senior's card or PIN before a protected action goes ahead.

Full audit trail

Log logins, failed logins, logouts, auto-logouts, voids, discounts, table moves, approvals, conversions and reprints, with a staff login timeline.

Auto-logout timers

Set auto-logout per selling point and role, with optional logout after every order.

Multiple selling points and printers

Run any number of selling points, each with its own thermal receipt printer.

Kitchen, bar and pizza stations

Add preparation stations with their own printers and routing rules by area, selling point or order type.

Network ESC/POS printing

Print to network ESC/POS printers from the server without an IoT box, or use Epson ePOS and IoT printers.

Matching kitchen and cashier receipts

Kitchen tickets carry the same receipt number as the cashier's bill so they always match.

Tables, guests and table moves

Use your own table names, record guests per table for events and move tables or guests without losing the order.

Takeaway and dine-in conversion

Send takeaway orders to the kitchen marked for packing and convert between takeaway and dine-in on the same order and receipt, with a notice ticket to the stations.

Delivery app orders

Receive Uber Eats, Glovo and Bolt Food orders through webhooks into the POS delivery inbox.

M-Pesa and mobile money

Take M-Pesa through the core Safaricom POS integration and Daraja STK push, and Airtel Money STK.

Bank and card payments

Support KCB Buni, Equity Jenga, Co-operative Bank and I&M Bank IPN matching, Pesapal card and mobile links, and manual PDQ capture.

KRA eTIMS

Handle eTIMS through the shared eTIMS POS module, installed in one click from Settings.

Offline-capable till

Keep selling when the internet drops, using the offline mode built into Odoo's Point of Sale.

Why it pays off

The results businesses see

  • Staff cards and approvals make it clear who did what at the till.
  • Voids and discounts need the right approver, which reduces leakage.
  • Orders reach the right kitchen or bar printer first time.
  • Delivery orders arrive in the same place as dine-in, so staff use one screen.
  • Customers can pay by M-Pesa, card, bank or cash at the same till.
  • eTIMS is built in, so receipts follow KRA requirements.
  • Offline mode keeps service going during an internet outage.
  • Pairs with the multi-branch restaurant inventory system for food cost control.

Common questions

Is this a different system from your POS for retail? +

Yes. This one is built for restaurants, bars and hotel outlets, with tables, kitchen and bar stations, staff cards and delivery channels. Our general POS is built for shops.

Does it support KRA eTIMS? +

Yes, through the shared eTIMS POS module, which can be installed in one click from Settings.

Which payments does it accept? +

M-Pesa through Daraja STK push, Airtel Money, KCB Buni, Equity Jenga, Co-operative Bank and I&M Bank matching, Pesapal card and mobile links, manual PDQ capture and cash.

Can we use staff cards or fingerprints? +

Yes. Staff can sign in with a card or badge, a PIN, or a fingerprint-reader bridge that speaks the documented HTTP protocol.

Can it print to the kitchen and bar separately? +

Yes. Each preparation station has its own printer, and routing rules decide which station prints which items.

Does it work with Uber Eats, Glovo and Bolt Food? +

Yes. Orders from these platforms arrive through webhooks into the POS delivery inbox.

What happens if the internet goes down? +

The till keeps working in offline mode and syncs when the connection returns.

Can it connect to inventory and food cost? +

Yes. It pairs with our multi-branch restaurant inventory system so sales deplete stock and feed recipe costing.
